Please note that papers printed in the early volumes of the Society's Proceedings were the texts of talks as delivered, hence more personal and informal than one finds in later volumes when the talks were elaborated into academic articles prior to publication.
This paper complements David Zuck's paper, "Julius Jeffreys and the physiology of lung volumes," delivered at a History of Anaesthesia Society conference the following year.
