Lancet
(22 May 1847): 546.

The two operations at St. George's Hospital on 29 April were the 26th and 27th in which Snow administered ether at that institution. It was the first time, however, he had used Mr. Sibson's face mask, which the reporter believed "answered very well."

[Snow later published his case notes on these operations in his monograph on ether inhalation, pp. 64-65.]

The two operations at University College Hospital on 3 May in which Snow administered ether at the request of the surgeon, Robert Liston, were his first at that institution. The reporter's notes include a description of Sibson's face mask.

[Snow later published his case notes on these operations in his monograph on ether inhalation, p. 72.]
